STEREOGRANIMATOR

My current obsession? The New York Public Library's Stereogranimator. I read about it on Design Sponge a couple weeks ago and I have been addicted ever since.

I've always loved the way old stereographs look...and I own several...but I don't have a stereoscope. That's one of those nifty old contraptions that turns the two images into one and makes it look all three dimensional. You know...essentially a Victorian era viewmaster.

But now it doesn't matter thanks to the NYPL's awesome gif maker. They have scanned over 40,000 stereographs that you can choose from. And when you find one that suits your fancy you can turn it into an animated gif which rapidly flashes between the left and right images giving it the intended 3-D effect. Genius!
